Strength, flexibility, and body awareness are critical skills for any actor, but are often overlooked. Similarly, athletic and acrobatic maneuvers are often dismissed as “spectacle” rather than “storytelling.”
This class will provide an introduction to a variety of acrobatic skills that can be used to generate compelling stage effects, expand your stage combat palette, and enhance cast bonding during rehearsal. You’ll learn basics of weight-sharing, falls, rolls, human pyramids, and most important, how to use an acrobatic approach to convey character and story. Class emphasizes safety and progression, but students will be encouraged to work at the edge of their ability and comfort zone.
